~ Week Five ~

This week I have been experimenting with different techniques for making good images, I have made some HDR images and a few panorama images. I have mostly looked at landscapes as they make good images using HDR or 'stitching' (panorama)

Like the photographer Iwan Baan, I wanted to capture a wide area of land in just one image, so to do this I took lots of images of the area I could see and went onto photoshop and 'stitched' them together to create a large image showing the view I could see in a larger level.

Again I done another 'panorama' both of the images I have made will actually form an 360' view if printed out and placed together one end of the image to the other. The reason I decided to do an 360' view is so that people will be able to see what i could see by moving my head all around the area.

This image I used before in one other of my weeks, I decided to use this image too see how it would turn out making it to an HDR image. The outcome didn't come out that bad, I quite like the water at the bottom of the image as it sort of looks '3D'.

This is my best attempt at doing HDR, as I think it makes the image seem quite dramatic and the colours are bold and gives the image more interest for the viewer.

~ Week Four: People ~

This week I focused just on people, mostly close-ups of their face, the reason for this is that I wanted to capture the details of the skin, face and other features you wouldn't usually think about just seeing them using the naked eye.

Here i tried getting her in focus whilst trying to blur the rest of the background, i wanted to get an similar style to the bokeh effect (which is when part of the image is in focus whilst the rest is so out of focus you can't make out with the surroundings are for example : http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/8a/Josefina_with_Bokeh.jpg/800px-Josefina_with_Bokeh.jpg)my background is not as out focused as bokeh pictures are this is because I wasn't sure how to make it really out of focus just using a 30mm lens.

The idea for this image was to just get her eye mostly in focus, trying to get as much detail as I could using the lens I was using; even though the rest of the face is in focus too I think the outcome wasn't as bad as expected and made quite a good image.

Like the above picture I only wanted one part of the face in focus, this image worked as planned, it might of looked better if I made the rest of the image more out of focused, but either way I don't think its that bad. The reason i wanted to do images like this was because I saw these images which have a good range of depth of field and wanted to recreate something like it. http://digital-photography-school.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/depth-of-field-1.jpg. and http://cache1.asset-cache.net/xc/87826240.jpg?v=1&c=IWSAsset&k=2&d=910C62E22B9F47AABFFB4C56AB67BCC1C0090B568F1B6CD64C5CEE6244908C1CE30A760B0D811297

this image is a bit different to the ones above, this is because I wanted to try something new, and after looking up various images by David Hockney. As he takes lots of images of the one subject but different views of the subject then putting them together to form a unrealistic portrait. For example here is a link to one of his many images he has produced http://www.mexicanpictures.com/headingeast/images/david-hockney.jpg

~ Week Three: Swampool Beach ~

This week I went to swampool beach and took a few images of the views around me, i mostly looked at the waves and the details in the water every time they washed across the shore as this interested me as each and every time they hit the sand the wave wouldn't be the same as the last.

The reason I decided to use this image is because I quite liked how dark and gloomy the rocks looked. I think this image isn't one of my best but the way the image gives a sense of sadness it made me want to use it.

When taking this picture I had an idea in mind, my idea was to make an image of my own using the idea of an 'silhouette image' which is when the object in the image is dark, sometimes pitch black, with the background light being so bright, this effect is made by standing the subject or object directly against the sun so that the sun shines around it making no detail on the subject. I think you could also get the same effect using a studio and a bright back drop. here are some examples of the sort of thing i wanted to create: http://photos.paulschedler.net/Photos/a/7/f/a7f757283dd744808bfb08e2900aa771-lg-Norwalk-Wisconsin-United%20States-Beautiful-Church%20Catholic-Church%20Exterior-Church%20Photos-Cross-Peaceful-Religious%20Building-Silhouette-Photography-Photos.jpg. I liked the idea of this effect as Silhouette's always come across as being mysterious and moody. They hide the full story, making them interesting.

I liked how the water in this image seems to be 'creeping' the way it slowly came closer and closer.

When walking down the beach I saw this man and his dog and decided to take an image of them both as just something about the way the dog was around the owner made it seem an interesting scene to capture.

Before I had captured this image I had seen an image before by Ansel Adams with the leaves on the sand, that image came to mind when looking down at this leaf and made me want to take an image, even though its not that similar too Ansels image as his has bright red leaves and a shuttle tone for the sand but I still saw this as an all right picture.

After watching the waves for a rather long time I decided to take an image of the view I saw, I loved the way the waves crashed down differently each and every time they hit the sand and wanted to capture the waves mid-way before they crashed and flattened out.

~ Week Two ~

This week I looked mostly at Landscapes, colour mostly, hoping to get a lot of detail in my images. I tried different things like having the sun behind the object, taking images in gloomy light settings and other various places.

I love how the sun had formed into a 'star' in the sky, also I quite liked the fact it looked a bit like an 'silhouette image' because of the dark objects in front of the light. I like how you can't quite make out what object were actually there. The main reason I picked this image was because I really liked how the sun turned out and where it is placed in the image.

This image I took on a snowy day, I like how dark the branches were and and nice white view behind them. The main reason I took this image was because I liked how the branches came out of the sides leaving you a view in the centre, I think this made the image more appealing to look at.

Here I took the berries in low light settings, this was because I wanted to have a dull looking background to make the red berries stand out a little more. I tried zooming in on a particular part of the berries so I have some depth of field in this image.

I took this image on a really sunny day so the leaves looked really green and the sky a nice blue, but I wanted to make this picture more interesting by putting the contrast higher so that the colours of the image really stood out. I'm not that sure if it worked out that good as the image might seem too dramatic to viewers.

While walking down this path I really liked the view I could see, so decided to capture 'a moment in time'; this image does look all right but would look better if there was more colours and maybe a bigger view.

~ Week One ~

In this week I have chosen a few favourite images that represent colour. The camera I will be using most is a Canon 400D/450D.

I like taking close up images I seen this opportunity to take this image, i really like the detail in the net, also the colours of the balls are very vibrant.

In this image I tried to capture a good depth of field, closing in on the metal wire and using a low angel to take the picture.

The original idea for this image was to get the number in focus whilst having the rest of the image in a blur.

This image wasn't really planned I could see the glasses on the edge of the lamp and i just took the camera out and took a few shots, this is the best one that i choose as it has a really good range of light.

I tried to keep the two front pots in focus whilst having the rest slightly out of focus, to try and get some sort of depth of field.
